Meet Dr.Matthew VanderLaan

Dr. VanderLaan was born and raised in West Michigan, graduating from East Kentwood High School. He proceeded to the University of Michigan, earning his Bachelor of Science in Biology and an academic minor in Spanish. In 2009, Dr. VanderLaan completed his Doctor of Dental Surgery at the prestigious University of Michigan School of Dentistry. He returned to his hometown and spent the first 3 years of his career as a public health dentist. In 2012, he started VanderLaan Family Dentistry after acquiring a small dental practice in Cutlerville. In 2014, the practice moved to its current home at the corner of 84th Street and Clyde Park Ave. in Byron Center. The current facility has nearly every technology of modern dentistry available for patients’ benefit.

Along the way, he was blessed to marry his wife, Dana, and grow their family with four wonderful children. When he is not busy with his children’s various sports and activities, Dr. VanderLaan enjoys travel, downtime, and cheering on the Michigan Wolverines in every sport!

Dr. VanderLaan values patient-centered, relationship-driven dental care. He believes every patient deserves the best care and works fervently to customize care for all patients. Whether they require routine cleanings or extensive restorative work, Dr. VanderLaan strives to give patients the same care he would provide one of his family members.

Dr. VanderLaan has aggressively pursued continuing education over his career and strives to be a lifelong learner. He has completed advanced restorative coursework at the Pankey Institute, the Kois Center, and the Dawson Academy. He is also a Fellow of Implant Pathways, an advanced implant training curriculum for general dentists. In an effort to create a positive, comfortable atmosphere in his practice, Dr. VanderLaan has extensively studied behavioral and cognitive sciences, knowing that going to the dentist is no one’s favorite thing. Dr. VanderLaan strives to create an environment that welcomes each patient with unique dental needs.
